羟丙基甲基纤维素醚简称HPMC.本产品为非离子型纤维素醚，外观为白色的粉末，无嗅无味,溶于水及大多数极性有机溶剂和适当比例的乙醇/水、丙醇/水、二氯乙烷等，在乙醚、丙酮、无水乙醇不溶，在冷水中溶胀成澄清或微浊的胶体溶液。水溶液具有表面活性，透明度高、性能稳定。
建筑业：作为水泥沙浆料的保水剂、缓凝剂使沙浆具有泵送性。加入到灰浆、石膏料、腻子粉等建材中，能提高涂抹性和延长可操作时间。 用作粘贴瓷砖、大理石、塑料装饰，粘贴增强剂，还可以减少水泥用量。 HPMC的保水性能使浆料在涂抹后不会因干得太快而龟裂，增强硬化后强度。
