不锈钢水管主要用于水输送，是最好的直接饮用水输送管材。其具有漏水率很低，可以节约宝贵的水资源特点。上世纪八十年代时的水管漏水率在17%左右，改用不锈钢水管后漏水率降到7%。在地震中的供水系统遭到破坏，然而不锈钢的水管系统却完好无损。另外与铜水管相比，不锈钢水管的通水性好，在流速高的情况下不腐蚀。它的保温性也是铜管的24倍。

不锈钢材料是可以植入人体的健康材料，所以对供水管来说，选用不锈钢管道是最有利健康的。浸泡水试验，各项指标均符合国家有关饮用水标准要求。不锈钢管道内壁光滑，长期使用不会积垢、不易被细菌粘污，无须担心水质受影响，更能杜绝水的二次污染。

不锈钢表面薄而致密的富铬氧化膜，使得不锈钢水管在包括软水在内的所有水质中都具有良好的耐腐蚀性，即使埋地使用也有优良的耐蚀性；实地腐蚀试验数据表明，不锈钢水管的使用寿命可达100年，寿命周期内几乎不需要维护，避免了管道更换的费用和麻烦，综合使用成本低。

不锈钢可以在-270℃－400℃的温度下长期安全工作，无论是高温还是低温，都不会析出有害物质，材料性能相当稳定；不锈钢水管抗拉强度大于530 N/mm ，而且具有良好的延展性和韧性。不锈钢水管的高强度，极大地降低了受外力影响漏水的可能性，显著降低了水的渗漏率，使水资源得到有效的保护和利用。
1、卡压式连接（单双卡施工方式相同 ）--------- 采用径向收缩外力（液压钳）将管件卡紧在管子上，并通过O型密封圈的止水，达到连接效果。 连接强度高（接口连接强度达到管体强度的1/3上）， 管道不可拆卸；管子端口的毛刺、飞边清除不净会损坏胶圈，成为日后漏水的隐患。
2、沟槽式连接---------采用径向收缩外力（螺杆）将管件卡紧在管子上，并通过宽带胶密封圈的止水，达到连接效果， 可拆卸，管子安装增加管端滚压凸环的工序；接口强度比卡压式好。
3、焊接式连接---------采用热熔工艺，将两连接件熔接，达到连接的效果。 连接强度高，现场焊接口的焊缝气体保护难以达标，造成焊缝易生锈，直接降低管道的使用寿命； 安装质量对焊接工人技术依赖性强，质量难稳定。
